Q: When is the WPC 2013? A: The WPC 2013 will take place Tuesday, October 1 – Friday, October 4, 2013.



A:  It will be held in Montreal, Canada at the Palais des congrès (convention centre) located in the heart of downtown.
Easily accessible by car, public transit, bicycle, and on foot, the Palais des congres de Montreal is also directly and famously linked to the city's metro system and underground pedestrian network. The international airport is 20 minutes away, and the train station is virtually next door. A:  The program will offer something for everyone in the Parkinson's community including researchers studying the cause and cure of PD, the clinicians or allied health professionals who are caring for people with PD, people who are living with the disease themselves or caring for someone living with it. Basically, we expect that anyone touched by PD will find something of value in the four days of sessions. Citizens of all countries are welcome to attend the WPC 2013.


A:  Registration for the WPC 2013 will open in January 2013 on the WPC website.

Hotel registration for individual delegates will be open in January 2013. Group reservation of more than 10 rooms is available now by contacting the World Parkinson Congress Delegate Services by emailing housing@worldpdcongress.org. A: The exact cost to attend the WPC will be on a sliding scale as it has been for the first two WPCs. Details can be found here. Registration will open in January 2013.

A: The WPC will offer grants to junior scholars and health professionals from developing parts of the world to attend as well as travel stipends for people living with Parkinson's.

-Junior scholar applicants, within five years of receiving their advanced degree, will need to have submitted an abstract and have it accepted for display to be considered for a grant. -Health professionals from developing parts of the world need not submit an abstract but they are encouraged to do so to strengthen their application. To apply for support, you must show a need for the information in your everyday work. -People with Parkinson's will also be able to apply for travel support. Details on travel grant applications can be found here. The application will open January 2, 2013.


Q: How do I get to Montreal, Canada? A: There are a number of direct flights into Montreal on a daily basis from North American and Europe. For US citizens in the New England area, Amtrak trains travel to Montreal via Vermont. More details on travel options and discounts can be found here.


Q: What documentation do I need to travel to Canada for the attendance at the WPC 2013? A:   All participants require a valid passport and may require other documentation such as a visa to enter Canada. For detailed information about entry visas you can visit the Citizenship and Immigration website.

We encourage you to consult the list of countries and territories whose citizens require visas in order to enter Canada as visitors.

If you are travelling through the United States en route to Canada, even if only in transit due to connecting flights, you will be required to go through US Immigration and Customs and may require a US visa. Please consult US visa requirements at the links below or consult your travel agent.


Q: What are my responsibilities as a congress attendee?

A: Visas are the responsibility of individual delegates, and must be obtained before coming to and arrival in Canada. Please note that the conference organizers and secretariat do not have the authority to act on behalf of individuals in obtaining visas. It is strongly recommended that you apply at least six months in advance to ensure you receive your visa in time for travel. Click here for more information regarding application processing times. 
All Canadian Embassies and Consulates around the world have been informed of the WPC 2013 and are expecting visa requests from registered delegates. 
If a delegate has to cancel because the visa application was declined or the visa was delivered too late, the request for cancellation must be received in writing at the Congress Secretariat within one week (7 days) of receiving the rejection. The Secretariat will issue a total refund if the paperwork is supplied within one week of the rejection date and/or is all submitted by the start date of the Congress, on October 1, 2013.

Q: How do I obtain a visa application?
A: Congress participants coming from countries requiring a visa to enter Canada can obtain a personalized letter to support their visa applications. Please note that the sole purpose of this letter is to assist you in obtaining a visa for entering Canada to participate in the WPC 2013. All delegates need to register and pay the related fees. Obtaining a visa is the responsibility of each individual delegate and must be obtained before coming to Canada.
This letter is not and cannot be regarded as a financial commitment from the organizers of the WPC 2013 Congress. All Congress-related expenses (travel, accommodation, transportation, insurance, congress registration, etc.) will be your own responsibility. Click here to generate your letter of invitation.

Q: How do I obtain an invitation letter?
A: Congress participants coming from countries requiring a visa to enter Canada can obtain a personalized letter to support their visa applications.   
This letter is not and cannot be regarded as a financial commitment from the organizers of the WPC 2013 Congress.  Q:  Are you accepting abstracts?
A:  The WPC will be accepting abstracts for posters in that fall under four categories, Basic Science, Clinical Science, Clinical Diagnosis/Quality of Life, and Living with Parkinson's. Abstract submission will open December 3, 2012 and close on April 15, 2013 at 11:59PM ET (US).
All persons whose abstracts are accepted for display and publication, must register to attend the WPC in person to represent their work. Abstract submitters who do not register by Friday, June 14, will not have their abstracts displayed in the CD or the journal supplement.
Q: When will the program be posted? A: The preliminary program can be found by clicking here.

Q: Are you offering continuing educational credit? A:  Yes. Continuing educational credit will be offered to health professionals. Details will be posted in 2013.

Q: Who runs the World Parkinson Congresses? A:  The triennial World Parkinson Congresses are designed, hosted, and run by the World Parkinson Coalition Inc., a US-based nonprofit organization dedicated solely to this event and to ultimately bringing the global PD community together. The philosophy of the organization is to bring the diverse PD community together and to create a space for cross-fertilization of delegates' ideas, research projects, and collaboration with the expectation that this opportunity will help expedite the discovery of both the cause and cure of PD.

Q: How can my organization/association join the list of WPC Partners? A:  All nonprofit professional associations/societies and patient voluntary organizations or foundations are welcome to partner with the WPC. There is no fee to partner with the WPC, but the expectation is that your organization will help promote the WPC to your members/supporters. View WPC Partners.
The goal of the WPC is to bring as many members of the community together as possible as we believe this will advance a better understanding of the disease and the daily issues people with PD experience. The more OPs who are on board allows for a broader reach and ensures a more diverse delegate pool allowing for robust discourse on PD science and care. Q: Which agency should Italian delegates contact for attending the WPC? A: Italian organizations that wish to sponsor the participation of Italian doctors should present their applications through our official agency, who will forward them to the Italian Health Ministry.
