SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The World Parkinson Coalition Inc welcomes the submission of original abstracts for presentation during the third World Parkinson Congress in Montreal, Canada rom October 1 - 4, 2013.

The WPC expects that all abstracts selected for presentation will be presented by the original author(s) and that no submitted abstracts be withdrawn. Please do not submit an abstract if you are not prepared to travel to the meeting to present your research. Scientific abstracts will be published in a scientific journal prior to the Congress.

Publication note: In order for your abstract to be published in the journal supplement, the presenting author must registered for the WPC by the early-bird cut-off date. If they are not registered by this date, their abstract(s) will NOT be printed in the journal supplement. No exceptions will be made to this rule.

Scientific Abstracts
Scientific abstracts will be accepted in 36 different categories of basic and clinical science as well as care delivery and therapy (see categories).

Living with Parkinson's Abstracts
The WPC will also be accepting abstracts on the topic of living with Parkinson's disease. Living with Parkinson's abstracts should highlight and share details of programs and projects being designed and implemented that help people with PD and caregivers to take charge of their situation and bring about change on a local, regional, or national level. These can be projects done by individuals, groups, or organizations.

Abstracts Presented at Other Meetings
Abstracts that have been presented at other meetings may be submitted if they have not been published and if the meeting name and date are cited accordingly.

Eligibility
Scientific abstracts are open to everyone with research related to the field of Parkinson's disease. Living with Parkinson's abstracts are open to everyone involved in education and advocacy related to the field of Parkinson's.

Including, but not limited to: physicians, scientists, students/fellows, allied health professionals, nurses, PD advocates, care partners, and people living with Parkinson's.

Original Submissions
All abstract submissions must be original research. Previously published papers may not be submitted for consideration.

Submission fee
There is no fee for submitting an abstract.

Language
Abstracts must be submitted and presented in English.

Internet Submission
The only means of submission is via the Internet.

Scientific abstracts must be received by TBD
Living with Parkinson's abstracts must be received by TBD

Note: Your abstract should be a maximum of 2,500 characters which is approximately 300 words.  Further information on the submission of your abstract can be found when you enter the submission link.

Review Process
Authors are required to:
1. Indicate whether it is a scientific abstract or a living with Parkinson's abstract
2. Select one category under which the abstract should be reviewed either in the Scientific OR Living with Parkinson's categories.

The five categories for the Living with Parkinson's posters are:

Educational & Awareness Raising Programs

 

For example, posters might showcase activities to raise the profile of Parkinson's in your local community or to draw public attention to Young Onset Parkinson's Disease.

Government Advocacy/Campaigns/ Public Policy

For example, posters in this category might highlight campaigns to increase public funding for Parkinson's research or to reduce the cost of access to medication.

Living Healthier with PD

For example, posters might emphasize the benefits of exercise for people living with Parkinson's or the importance of diet.

Influencing research through fundraising, clinical trials, grassroots campaigns

For example, campaigns to achieve more involvement in research for the patient community or activities linked to specific potential medicaments.

Other

If it doesn't fit above, please submit under ‘Other'

 

The Review Committee will be directed to reject abstracts for the following causes:
-Plagiarism
-Marketing
-Subject unrelated to Parkinson's
-Does not meet basic requirements

WPC only accepts original work. By submitting your abstract, you affirm that your abstract is your own, either individually or of the group. Should plagiarism be detected by the software, the abstract will be rejected.

Abstract Presentation
All abstracts will be considered for poster presentation during designated times of the WPC 2013. Poster Sessions allow the review of a poster illustration of your abstract.

Guidelines for Creating Your Poster
- Poster dimensions will be posted by December 3, 2012.
- All posters must be self explanatory and need no supplementary signage
-All posters must be PORTRAIT – Landscapes prints will not fit on the poster boards provided
-All posters must be complete
-Materials should be mounted on thin poster paper that can be rolled and put in a tube
-All text and diagrams should be printed (minimum font size 14) and should be self explanatory
-Text should, wherever possible, should be in bullet point format rather than as text, as this makes it easier to -read
-If diagrams or pictures from other sources have been used, evidence of copyright should be available for inspection if requested

“Hot Topics” Presentations:
Twelve (12) scientific abstracts will be selected for “Hot Topics presentations at a special daily “Hot Topics session held each morning in the main plenary hall. The abstracts selected will feature newsworthy and cutting-edge information, research about Parkinson's disease and best care delivery. If you would like your abstract to be considered as a “Hot Topic, please check the appropriate box on the online submission form.
